Switched Digital Video

Switched Digital Video

Not all Switched Digital Video is created equal. Neither are Switched Digital Video vendors. Scientific Atlanta delivers every element of the Switched Digital Video solution, all based on open architecture for distinctive flexibility and advantage.

The Scientific Atlanta SDV solution offers marked advantages
over existing platforms with its open IP-architecture.

This key differentiator opens up protocols for multiple vendor technologies and applications (including client software, servers, switches and QAM modulators) integrated together for platform scalability and flexibility without complex upgrades. Additionally, the SDV platform  immediately enables QAM video sharing and high network redundancy.

The Complete, End-to-End Open Architecture Solution
Scientific Atlanta offers the complete, end-to-end SDV solution The best part is that the Scientific Atlanta solution can work in concert with existing network equipment and customer premise equipment. Specific solution elements include:

  • USRM - Distributed services management platform that provides carrier-class signaling and resource management with always-on operation. USRM supports both table-based and session-based Scientific Atlanta and third-party QAMs. USRM also supports encrypting GQAMs as well as the Netcrypt bulk encryptor. The USRM uses open protocols to enable rapid deployment of new services or edge resources, and can be configured to enable your architectural needs.
  • Digital Content Manager - Grooms and processes SDV streams. In the SDV solution, it can perform additional functions with digital video, such as ad insertion, rate shaping and transcoding.
  • Netcrypt™ Bulk Encryptor - Allows for independent scaling of encryption and Edge QAM resources and is connected to the IP network over Ethernet.
  • SDV Manager - Controls and arbitrates bandwidth for multiple applications. Manages allocation of bandwidth between SDV and existing VOD services. It functions from the Digital Network Control System (DNCS).
  • SDV Server - The foundation behind the SDV solution. Tracks all channel change requests and viewership patterns, and is built on standards-based server hardware and operating systems.
  • Session-Based QAM Modulators - Scientific Atlanta offers a family of Edge QAM modulators that support SDV. The GQAM, XDQA-24 and newly announced RF Gateway 1 QAMs are all deployable into the SDV architecture. These QAM products support IP multicast (IGMPv3) and interoperability with standard IP switch/switch routers. These QAMs interface with the master SRM and SDV server using open interfaces to deliver SDV over the HFC network. They also enable QAM sharing between SDV and VOD services.
  • SDV Client - Scientific Atlanta’s SDV client can easily be integrated into existing set-top electronic program guides (EPGs).
  • Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System - The industry’s first carrier-class routing system that seamlessly scales to 92 terabits per second, uniquely meeting the extreme capacity
needs of video entertainment delivery today while providing investment protection for the future.
  • Operational Support Applications for network readiness, service assurance, and capacity utilization monitoring and planning.

From headend applications to content acquisition to set-tops, with support software for service assurance, the Scientific Atlanta SDV solution provides a comprehensive package. And with Scientific Atlanta, you have the added benefit of a dedicated team of professionals with more than 25 years of interactive video experience behind them.

Let us take your SDV platform to a higher level with our end-to-end solution, integration experience and “glass-to-glass” video delivery technologies.
